I’ve covered the topic of sacred geometry a couple of times in this blog, and that’s because it’s such a vast subject with an enormous amount of information! I really just skimmed the surface with my original blog post about this topic, and then expanded a bit in my next post about the cells of the honey bee.
Sacred Geometry is found in nature, mathematics, science, religion, art, architecture and engineering. It is an endless visual. As you can see here, we have a snapshot of a spiral (finite), as well as a spiral in motion (infinite).
- Nature: On the snail’s shell and on shells by the ocean. It also occurs in whirlpools, hurricanes, tornadoes and galaxies.
- Religion: As a symbol for creation and growth.
- Psychology: As the journey of life and the changes we undergo as life unfolds.
- Math, architecture, art, biology, plants and the solar system:
- The Golden Spiral is a coil with a growth factor that’s represented by the scientific symbol φ (a lowercase phi). It equals the number 1.618. The golden spiral starts with a rectangle of which the ratio between its length and width is the golden ratio. This is a case in which a picture is worth a thousand words, so take a look at the two here.
- Fibonacci Numbers is a sequence of numbers, and each number in the sequence is the sum of the two previous numbers: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, etc. The higher up the chain you go, the consecutive numbers are divisible by each other to obtain what’s called the “golden ratio.” The Fibonacci spiral and golden ratio were used a great deal by painters during the Renaissance, who proportioned their work because they believed it to be much more aesthetically pleasing.
- Music: In music theory, there is a mathematical model called the Spiral Array. Visually, it is shown as concentric helixes. It represents human perceptions of pitches, chords and keys. Who knew that something so enjoyable could have such a complex explanation, and even more surprisingly, have anything to do with geometry?!
In this Universe, we are all connected. And sacred geometry—and the spiral—proves it.
